LOST TOOTH

It finally happened! Ethan has been waiting really since Kindergarten to loose his first tooth and it finally happened last night! I wasn't to worried because he got his teeth late when he was a baby, so I figured he would loose them late also. He has had 4 loose teeth since Christmas. His top front and bottom front teeth.I told him to choose one to really work on rather than wiggle all 4 so he chose the tooth that was loose first. He has wiggled it faithfully since then. Even in the school Christmas program (when we thought he was picking his nose) Nope trying to sing with his finger in his mouth; had to wiggle that tooth! This tooth has taken so long he even consented to Dad's teasing of pulling it out with pliers. (To bad Dad was to squeamish to do it) Last night I could tell it was coming out and told Ethan to work on it so he didn't loose it in the night. While in the bathtub playing around I hear a "Oh, NO!" I ran in to see what was the matter and find Ethan elated that his tooth had fallen out and that he hadn't noticed for a moment and had sat on it. He had found it on the bottom of tub and was proudly grinning his new toothless grin in the mirror. He didn't even freak like I thought he would at the sight of a little blood.

I choked back some tears because I realized that he was growing up faster than I want him to. It hit me that he will never loose another first tooth. I can't figure out why I am so emotional lately I think I am just watching these boys grow up and realizing I want to hold on to these moments and memories and afraid I will forget them. That is why this blog is so good for me!

Anyway, After his bath I sent Ethan in to get dressed so I could take a picture. He came out crying and saying he didn't want to give up his first tooth to the Tooth Fairy. He had decided to write her a note and ask if he could keep the tooth instead of money from her. (Unlike Garrison who is willing to give or sell anything to scam someone out of a few $ . He is trying to figure out how to loose teeth at age 4 because he "Needs some extra cash for his collection" whole other story in a previous post) Ethan wrote a note and stuck it and the tooth under his pillow. At midnight Ethan woke me as excited as could be whistling next to my bed. The Tooth Fairy had come and said he could keep the tooth and gave him a 2 dollar bill. This morning he was so excited to go to school and show everyone his missing tooth. Congratulations Ethan you have met the milestone of loosing your first tooth!
