Soccer

Ethan has been begging us to let him play soccer for the past few years. I will be the first to admit it is not Mine or Brady's sport of choice as we have no idea what is going on beyond watching little ones run up and down the field kicking each other, thank goodness for the shin guards, and occasionally the ball. But how do you say no to a child who wants to try and shows such enthusiasm towards it? So the season started later than anticipated and now we find ourselves cheering on the sidelines bundled in our winter gear, as Ethan is LOVING playing the game. He has only played three games but he is already teaching Brady and I a few "soccer terms." Last nights game was really exciting because he even made 2 goals! He was sooo thrilled with himself and his victory dance made us roll with laughter. I wish I would have had the video camera!!! So despite mine and Brady's attempt to steer him towards a sport we actually know what is going on, he has chosen soccer. I guess until we learn what is happening we will sit on the sidelines and be completely entertained by the innocence on the game and its players!!! Keep up the good work Ethan! We are having a great time watching you!!!!!

"Mom did you see that goal I just made?" We will be hearing the play by play until Christmas or later!!!

Garden Ball

Fall is here and despite our efforts to cover the garden and make it last a little longer, Frost came and killed everything left in the garden. So on Saturday we let the boys go out and pick the pumpkins and remaining good items from the garden.

Garrison couldn't resist breaking open a watermelon and eating it right there.

After everything good had been picked, Brady had the great idea of seeing who could throw things the farthest. Brady of course won. Its hard for the rest of us to palm a honeydew.

Next thing we know Brady came out with a shovel and started a game of garden baseball. The boys thought this was hilarous. Ethan said that we scored "Major COOL Parent points!"
We didn't even know we were trying for them. I am not sure if the neighbors would agree. I think we were really entertaining to watch. They probably didn't know who was more childlike that day. Brady and I or the boys. The best part is that we didn't even have to clean up our mess. The goats did it for us!!!! We are looking forward to the garden next year. Next fall anyone who want to join our baseball game is welcome!!!!!!

Home Sweet Home

2008

2009

I can hardly believe that a year ago today we finalized buying our home! We couldn't be happier. The year has flown by and we are still loving everything about where we live. We love our home, the community, and the lifestyle we have!!!

The boys especially love the big backyard to play in. They hardly ever say they are bored when it is good weather and they can be outside. This was not the case a few weeks ago. They were still begging me to let them out in the middle of this thunderstorm. They wanted to play in the rain and mud. Typical boys. As you can see we had plenty of mud for a few days. I am not sure what to do about all the dirt. We already have 7,000 sq. ft of grass for me to mow, so I am thinking road base or blacktop! After this storm I thought I should have dug a hole for a swimming pool. Now that would be cool!!!!

Here is to 365 days and counting!!!!!

Pink Eye

I got a call yesterday afternoon from my friend saying she had picked up Garrison from school today and he wouldn't leave his eye alone. It was all red and irritated. She thought it might be pink eye. PINK EYE NOOOOOOO! She brought him home and I took one look at him and new it was. I called the Dr. to see if I could get him in last night so I could let the school know before fall break. They had an appointment at 6 last night so we went in.
We got there, and I was talking to the Dr. he was asking all the usual question, making sure their wasn't another problem, and then we started talking about the eye. I was asking about how long it was contagious, he was telling me what to watch for etc. all this time we were referring to it as "his pink eye". Garrison just sat there taking it all in when all of the sudden he blurts out. "I DON'T HAVE A PINK EYE. I DON'T WANT A PINK EYE. MY EYES ARE BROWN AND I WANT THEM TO STAY THAT WAY" Poor kid. He thought his eyes were turning pink and going to stay that way. The Dr. got a good chuckle out of it and said that he better watch out more on what terms he used in front of Garrison next time. We explained that it was irritated and that with the medicine his eyes would look normal again.
Garrison prides himself on having "Beautiful Brown eyes" like his Mom and Grandma Staples.
Can't say as I blame him. What little boy would want to change their brown eyes to pink. Not really the color I think a boy would choose. Now if they changed to green............Maybe?

Another Garrison Moment

I thought I would post some of Garrison's funny moments. If I don't I will forget them.

Last weekend we took the family camping to the ward camp out. I didn't tell the boys anything about it just that we would be going camping on the desert. When we got there we sat down to dinner. Garrison looked around and turned to the RS President all amazed and said " Everyone I know is here. That is so weird." Later that night, he told me "Mom everyone in our church had the same idea to come camping here! What a great idea! We all think alike." I guess I should have explained it was planned. Not that everyone had the same idea and miraculously all show up at the same place at the same time. Oh well.

This morning we were taking our baby goats on their morning walk. Garrison's crocs were covered in mud from the backyard an they were hard to walk in because they were so heavy; so he decided to take them off. I told him that it wasn't a good idea but he insisted. As we were walking along on the rocks I asked him if his feet hurt and he wanted to walk on his shoes instead. He said to me " Mom I have been walking on these feet for years. They haven't failed me yet!"

This kid cracks me up. I never know what he is going to say.

Juror # ?

I just received notification that I am one of the lucky county citizens that is going to be " rewarded with the pride I can take in serving my community as a juror." For the next
6 months

Translation: Show up in court the days we tell you. Sit long boring hours, remember a good book to read, answer questions I am not sure why it would be relivant to a case like "Do I prefer oatmeal or toast for breakfast?" Or "Do you know so and so from the community." Who doesn't this is a SMALL town. Not hard when there are less people in the community than my high school. And if I am selected stay in isolation, not read the paper, or talk to anyone. Just in case they say something about the case. Talk about depressing.

In any case I will serve yet again. (This has been my 4th time doing jury duty since I was 18.) At this rate I think buying a lottery ticket might not be a bad idea!
