No Longer Tongue Tied!

Ethan went to the dentist today and had his tongue tied problem taken care of. We had tried to do it in August but he freaked out so we had to go back today and they sedated him for the procedure. He was so brave. They gave him a memory blocking drug that made him like a wet noodle. He couldn't even hold his hands up on the chair. He was like a limp rag doll. When they were finished and getting him up he wouldn't swallow. He kind of scared us because he started choking on his own spit and they made us stay for a little while until he coughed it all out and calmed down a little. The new procedure is so cool. They had a tool that cut and cauterized ( under his tongue at the same time. NO STITCHES!!!!! He even got a toy fireman's set from the dentist when he was all done.
On the drive home he was really happy one minute and crying the next. It made Mom feel so bad for him. He was also saying really funny things that I wish I would have had a video camera for. He was pretending to cut down trees in the car, talking nonsense into his walkie talkie, and asking were we got all the corn? We have no idea what he was thinking.
Now he is home resting, and we are still trying to get him to swallow instead of drool. I think it is going to be a long day!
Next time you see him ask him to show you how far he can stick out his tongue. He is excited about that! He thinks MAYBE when it is all healed he will be able to touch his nose with his tongue! We shall see!

"Sounds like life to me"

The other day while I was driving around feeling stressed to the max trying to make it home before the bus, making a grocery list in my head, wondering when I could do my visiting teaching, talking on the phone ( I know distracted driving give me a break I was on the country back roads), and planning dinner, this song "Sounds like life to me " by Darryl Worley came on the radio. I hung up the phone and laughed at myself as I thought of the chaos I was feeling at that moment. I love the first chorus when he says........

"Sounds like life to me it ain't no fantasy

It's just a common case of everyday reality.

Man I know its tough but you gotta suck it up

To hear you talk you're caught up in some tragedy

It sounds like life to me"

Then I laughed even harder at the fact that it is JUST LIFE!!! And I looked back at the past few days and the things that had made me feel like pulling my hair out and now I just realize they are life and I am laughing at now!

On Saturday the boys wanted toasted tuna sandwiches for lunch. We were headed to a Birthday party and I was in a hurry wrapping the present, finding shoes, getting outfits, the usual; so I made the mistake of teaching Garrison how to put the toast in push it down then wait for it to pop, take it out and butter it. Next thing I know I have an entire loaf of bread TOASTED! He was pleased with himself and now wants toast for EVERY meal. We have enough already made!

"SOUNDS LIKE LIFE TO ME"

On Sunday I went into the bathroom that afternoon to find spit wads all over the bathroom ceiling, walls and floor. I started to get upset at the situation and thought better about it and laughed instead. The boys response "They fall off when they dry" Brady says all boys learn this at some point. I just hope his brother and his wife didn't have to see them when they were visiting that day.

"SOUNDS LIKE LIFE TO ME"
On Monday we went to fly Brady's remote control airplane out on the desert. On the way back I got yet another flat tire. This makes 2 in the last month. At this rate I should just get all new tires but the other 2 are in really good shape still.
"SOUNDS LIKE LIFE TO ME"
So I am hoping to learn to laugh more and realize it "Sounds like life to me" and I LOVE IT!

Self Reliant Green Thumb

I decided this year that I was going to become more self reliant and learn some homemaking skills that in previous years I would have had to been drugged to make me do.

Step number 1: Plant a garden. With the help of my parents, this task was accomplished.

May 2009

Step 2: Keep the garden alive! I think we accomplished this. What do you think?

September 2009

Step 3: Pick the produce I grew and learn to cook with it. Do you know how many things you can make with zucchini? My kids especially like zucchini fries, chocolate cake, and will be trying pancakes this weekend. I am really excited for my 9 Honey Dew and 7 Watermelon to be ready to pick and eat!

Step 4: Realize that this fresh produce won't last forever and that old man winter is just around the corner and will soon ruin all I have worked for. This means that I had to learn how to freeze and can my veggies. I couldn't have done it alone, so bless my mother-in-law who has the patience of a saint, she came and taught me how to use the canner ( I am still deathly afraid of the glass shattering into a million places when I take it out of the hot water), and helped me make Chili Sauce, Salsa, and Bread and Butter Pickles! We worked from the time she got here till late into the night, then up early and all day the next day. I am thrilled with the finished product and don't want to open the jars cause I love how colorful and pretty they look! Not only did she help with the canning, she taught me to make dinner rolls for a family, and her famous cinnamon rolls for Brady. We never stopped running!

So in my task of becoming more self reliant, I am appreciating my pioneer ancestors even more. I am thankful for an air conditioned house to work in, hot running water, and a TV to keep my kids occupied and out of my hair!

Growing Up!

Preschool 2009-2010
Height: 43 1/2 inches
Weight: 42 pounds
Favorite subject: What's that?
Garrison started Preschool today! What am I going to do with no little ones around 3 days a week. I haven't had time to my self in 7 years. It really is a wierd feeling.
Garrison didn't seem to excited to go but wasn't at all upset either. He walked in found his name, hung up his backpack and didn't even look back. It made me a little sad to think he didn't even want me there. He is super excited to make new friends, learn from his teacher and really excited to play outside on the playground! I just hope he is as easy to get to go to school when High School comes around!

Slacker

I know I am way behind. Just keep reading the next 3 posts to see what we have been up to for the past little while!!! Enjoy!

Its the most wonderful time of the year? Not to ME.

Ethan first day of Second grade!

Height: 50 inches
Weight: 52 pounds
Favorite subject: Math

Ethan started school again and I miss him terribly. I love having him home. I also hate how old this makes me. He however is excited to be back at school in second grade with friends and LOVES his teacher this year, Mrs. Sitterude.

Look what followed me home Brady! Can I keep it?

Got to love Garrison's sense of fashion! We didn't
have to go anywhere that day.

We are fostering the most adorable goats for my parents. They are just a few weeks old so we bottle feed them daily!!
Garrison especially loves his "babies". I couldn't find him anywhere the day after we brought them home. I looked all over the house and even outside, calling for him. I finally decided to search more thorough outside and found him curled up in the hay singing lullabies to his babies so they could sleep! It was so tender. I wish I had gotten a picture.
That night it was raining and Brady and I had just finished building a little house for the goats, we had put it in the pen and was leaving when the goats started crying thinking it was time to eat. I was walking back into the house when Garrison went running past me. I asked him where he was going since I had bathed him 2 times that day already, and he said "My babies are crying. They NEED me." Needless to say I had to bath him again that night.
